Production approval

How to move out of the sandbox and send to anyone.

New organizations can start in a sandbox so you can integrate and test deliverability safely. In the sandbox you can send only to the verified members of your own organization, and you cannot send broadcasts. Sending to external recipients needs production access. The full rules are in Plans and limits.

What the sandbox allows

  • Sending from a verified domain to your own verified team members.
  • Everything in the API, including webhooks and templates, so you can build and test fully.
  • Quotas of your plan.

What it blocks

  • Sending to people outside your organization. The request fails with 403 forbidden and a message with the reason.
  • Broadcasts.

How to get out

  1. Verify your email address. At least one member must have verified their email (from the link sent at sign-up).
  2. Verify a sending domain. Add the DNS records and wait for it to show verified: Verify a domain. Depending on how the platform is set up, verifying a domain can lift the sandbox on its own.
  3. If you are still in the sandbox, ask for review. Write to [email protected] from your account's email with:
    • what your product does and who your recipients are,
    • what kinds of email you will send (receipts, password resets, newsletters) and how often,
    • how people sign up and consent: Email consent,
    • how you handle unsubscribes and bounces,
    • your expected daily volume and the domain you will send from.
  4. The team reviews the request and lifts the restriction. Sends to outside recipients then stop failing with 403.

Tips for a quick approval

  • Verify the domain before you ask, and make sure its website explains who you are.
  • Be specific about the list source. Purchased lists are refused.
  • Include sample emails, with your unsubscribe link and your postal details for marketing mail.
  • Start small and ramp up: Warm up a domain.

Restrictions later

usend can also restrict or suspend an organization later, for example when bounce or complaint rates get too high. A restricted organization is back in the sandbox-style mode, able to send only to its verified members, until the team lifts it. A suspended organization cannot send at all. You will see the reason in the error. See Bounces and suppressions.

Not sure which state you are in?

A send to an outside recipient that fails with 403 forbidden and mentions the sandbox or a restriction tells you. Your plan and usage appear under Billing in the dashboard.
